December Newsletter

We have had a lovely December here at Tots and Juniors!

We have celebrated the season doing a range of Christmas themed activities such as Christmas jumper day, making mince pies, making cards, cutting Santa's beard, decorating the tree with pom poms many more! We have also celebrated Hanukkah and made our very own Menorah's!

We have had a special visit from Santa! We hope the children enjoyed their visit with Santa and enjoyed receiving their gift from him!
We have also enjoyed beautiful carol singing from the preschool children! We like thank all the parents who could make this event and we hope you enjoyed it us much as we did!

All fruit and vegetables need to be cut length ways in half and then into quarters to prevent choking at nursery.We are a NUT FREE nursery and that we DO NOT ALLOW any meat on the bone to be brought into nursery (Again to prevent choking).

November Newsletter

We have had a lovely November here at Tots and Juniors. We have celebrated Remembrance Day by walking down to the cenotaph and laying our wreaths we made in preschool to honor those who fought for us in the wars. Thank you to everyone who took part in wearing something, yellow/spotty or Pudsey for Children in Need Day, the children had a wonderful time creating their own Pudsey faces, posting pompoms into Pudsey’s mouth and other Pudsey related activities.

We are very sad to announce that Kat has made the decision to leave her position as Deputy Manager at Tots&Juniors and go back into teaching.

Kat has brought so much to Tots&Juniors and supported the team, children & families amazingly well �� We are very sad to say goodbyes at Christmas.

We wish Kat well for the future… and know she will smash her new career ☺️

Challenge your child’s curiosity!

At Tots&Juniors we like to involve our parents/carers.

We believe there are lots of opportunities within nature to learn. Our challenge this month is a nature walk and to share what treasures you find along the way.

Can you find different sized sticks?
What bugs can you find along the way?
How many different coloured leaves can you find?

This is a great opportunity to incorporate a book into your nature walk...

Why not take a look at the “Stick man” book.

See if you can recreate your very own stick man using the twigs and leaves you collect along the way?

We would love to see your creations, so don’t forget to send us some photographs!

We have had an amazing spring and summer term here at Tots and Juniors and we would like to thank you all for being such amazing children and enjoying all the activities that we have done here over this time.

We would like to welcome 2 new members of staff, Tabitha and Lisa! Both Tabitha and Lisa hold a great wealth of experience between them and have already settled into Tots and Juniors wonderfully and the children have already stated how much they love having them here! They are both based mainly in our out of school club but Lisa will be in Preschool from time to time also, please say hello to them if you see them around!

causing frustration for the neighbours which could cause further complaints and reports to the
council, which is not good moving forward for Tots and Juniors. We appreciate your support.

If any personal details may have changed since registering i.e., address, phone numbers, work phone numbers please can you update these details on Kids club HQ where you first originally registered. Keeping emergency numbers/contacts up to date can be crucial in an emergency.

October Newsletter

We have had a lovely October here at Tots and Juniors, we have celebrated Diwali with the children and have been reading books about the festival of light and how people celebrate during the 5 days of Diwali.

We have enjoyed a lovely half term celebrating halloween, with a variety of halloween activities such as decorating the preschool, PYO Pumpkin and decorated it, terrifying biscuit decorating, spooky sensory jelly & more!

We would like to welcome 2 new members of staff, Tabitha and Lisa! Both Tabitha and Lisa hold a great wealth of experience between them. They are both based mainly in our out of school but Lisa will be in Preschool from time to time also.

I hope you have all seen our Closed Facebook page to see our wonderful new refurb we have done recently in preschool! Please look out for your invite to come and look around with your child in the new environment.

We also have a new teddy bear here at Tots and Juniors called Benny! Benny is our setting bear that comes home with the children until their next session. We love to see what your child gets up to with Benny so please post a career observation on Parent Portal.

September Newsletter

We would like to welcome our new starters that have started in September. We are happy to welcome you all to the Tots & Juniors family! We have loved having everyone back from their summer holidays and our new children settling in with us here at Tots and Juniors.

In order for us to have enough space on the children's pegs we will be using our own drawstring bags that will stay here at preschool.

We ask that you bring in :
3-4 full changes of clothes (tops, trousers, pants, socks)
Spare shoes if you feel this is necessary (E.g for toilet training)
A summer hat and a winter hat.
We will put these from your rucksacks into our drawstring bags and will send home your children's rucksacks.
If you bring nappies daily these will go into their baskets in the nappy changing room.

If any items of clothing goes home we ask that you replenish these next time you are in preschool, staff will be checking and if we go under a certain amount of clothing for your child and we will ask you to bring in some more. ��

Our family tree is looking rather sad come as some of our children and families are no longer with us. However we have some lovely new families we have welcomed and would love to have you on the tree with us!

Please could we have a picture of your child/ren with their family so we can use these as talking points within our setting with the children and help them with their communication between themselves and the staff.

I hope to see our family tree filled with beautiful pictures soon. ❤️

August Newsletter

Thank you to all that came to our preschool graduation prom! It was lovely to see you all dressed up and enjoying yourselves before you go to school! It’s been wonderful to see our amazing children grow and flourish, now the time has come for the rest of you to go off to your new adventure and we must let you spread your wings and fly! You all will do brilliant things when you start school in September. We can’t wait to see those first day photos of you all!

We’ve had a lovely summer. We went on a couple of local trips to the church, enjoyed baking activities, and every Friday we enjoyed a delicious ice cream from the ice cream van.

We can't wait for the new term to begin to see all your faces again and to welcome our new starters who will begin with us in September.

Pack lunches - We would like to remind everyone of our pack lunch policy here at Tots and Juniors. We are committed to healthy eating, we ask that your children do not bring in chocolate bars or sweets in their packed lunch. We are a nut free, meat on the bone free nursery, so we ask that no nut products such as chocolate spread or cereal bars are bought in containing any nuts, also that no meat on the bone is bought in. We also ask that you make sure all your child’s fruit or vegetables are cut appropriately, cut length ways in half and then into quarters to prevent choking at nursery.

If any of the above is brought into preschool unfortunately these will be placed back into your child’s lunch box.

Wow! What an amazing year it’s been so far! It’s been wonderful to see our amazing children grow and flourish, now the time has come for some of you to go off to your new adventure and we must let you spread your wings and fly! You all will do brilliant things when you start school in September.

Thank you everyone who came and visited us at Party on the Park, we had a wonderful time seeing you all and we loved playing games with you, and we hope you enjoyed the photo booth! In July we have celebrated International Joke Day - telling all our friends silly jokes to make them laugh. We also celebrated international shark and tiger day where we learnt about sharks and tigers and took part in wonderful activities based around these magnificent animals.

I would like to thank everyone who attended parents' evening on the 25th June, I hope you all agree that this was a successful evening! And we would like to thank you all for your lovely feedback we have recieved. This June we celebrated Fathers Day by making cards for someone special in your child’s life. On National Writing Day we enjoyed mark making in various ways to help us learn the way we write.

School Readiness! - As we have found out what schools your children will be attending from September, let's work together here at Tots & Juniors and at home to get the children ready for school as much as possible.

Here are a few things we can work together on before the big day:

1. Toileting - are they out of nappies/pull ups and dry during the day?
2. Can they put on their own socks and shoes?
3. Can they get their coat and bags on?
4. Can they wash and dry their hands independently?

This May we have been celebrating lots of events in preschool such as; International Day of Families - where we used our family tree pictures and spoke to each other about our own families. World Bee Day - The children really enjoyed learning and exploring bees and how they make honey and crafting their own bees and taking part in lovely messy activities . World Turtle Day - The children enjoyed crafting and exploring tuff trays focused on turtles.

For those starting school in September our amazing practitioners have been working hard starting their transition documents ready for school. We will be shortly finding a date for a parents evening for the children who will be starting school this year, please look out for this date!

Spring Out Of School Newsletter 2025

Hi All

Welcome to our Out of School Newsletter.

We would firstly like to welcome all our new children that have started with us since January 2025. What a great year it has been so far for our Out of School Club and Holiday Club.
The children have enjoyed a range of activities so far set by our amazing Out of School & Holiday Club team, such as baking, science experiments, arts and crafts, game days, and sports days and then outings during our Holiday Club to Spencer Park and Hall Park.

Announcements

It's been a while since we have posted an OOS newsletter and since then we have welcomed Nicola (Nic) back as manager, alongside her she has Rupert the Cocker Spaniel Puppy, who is training to become a pet therapy dog! And we have welcomed Kathryn (Kat) as the deputy manager. You have most likely seen Kat on the door in the mornings welcoming everybody in or in the evenings saying goodbye to you all. Both Nic and Kat are always happy to see you, they both work Monday - Friday!

April Newsletter

We would like to welcome our new starters that have started in April. We are happy to welcome you all to the Tots & Juniors family.
This April we have been celebrating events in preschool such as; World Health Day - looking at what is healthy and unhealthy foods, and exercising in the big garden! We have enjoyed a lovely half term here also with the children who attended through the holidays, we went on a couple of walks to the local church and explored the flowers, played games on the green and watched airplanes go by. We made pizzas, made our own chicks ready for Easter.
It has been an exciting month for our older children in preschool who have found out what school they will be attending in September! We will be working hard together with the schools for an easy transition for the children.

March Newsletter

This March we have been celebrating lots of events in preschool such as; National Wildlife Day, Pancake Day, Science Week, Saint Patrick's Day, Holi and Red Nose Day, I hope you all have been enjoying seeing the pictures of the children in their observations and on the closed facebook group doing all of these activities.

Nicola has been busy and is now a qualified drawing and talking practitioner and will be using her new found skills and knowledge to help children process their emotional pain or trauma they may be experiencing, through a safe and gentle therapeutic approach. Rupert has also been very busy and has passed his 2nd assessment and has been accepted onto the School Therapy Dog Programme.

Parent/Carer Challenge

Continuing from last month, we are still focusing on kindness and emotions so we challenge you to write something kind / nice about your child and we will hang these on our family tree and use them as a communication tool with the children and get them to listen to what has been written and talk about how it makes them feel. We will be handing out little shapes at the door for you to write something kind / nice about your child. Please return it to preschool once you have completed it. ❤️

February Newsletter

This February we have been celebrating Number day - we had lots of activities set up around number recognition, counting and number puzzles. On Valentine’s Day we had love heart dabbing painting and a lovely pink water tuff tray set up with flower petals to explore. During half term we in pre-school have been following the out of school planning and have been doing science experiments, baking flapjack, arts & crafts and done lots of outside activities. Ramadan we will be looking at the moon and stars and how these change and we will be playing games such as dominoes and tick-tac-toe to celebrate Ramadan.

PM collections we ask you collect between 3.30pm-3.45pm

January Newsletter

Firstly, I would like to welcome you all to a new year at Tots & Juniors, and we welcome all our new families that have started with us from the beginning of the year. We are hoping that 2025 will be a great year for all of us at T&J’s, and that it will be full of amazing opportunities and activities for the continuous learning and development of the children.

In January we have already had some amazing activities set up to celebrate National Handwriting Day, - mark making in rice, making letters using colourful spaghetti. Chinese New Year ( the year of the snake ) – exploring chinese food, mark making and watching videos of the dragon dancing!
National Puzzle Day – enjoying completing puzzles. We will keep you updated with more dates for the dairy with other days we are celebrating in the future.

Moving Forward for Preschool Collections.
We are asking that parents collect at certain times during the day, to avoid staff having to leave the children before the end of the sessions and the doorbell causing upset to new starters.
If you wish to collect before these times we ask that you ring the setting or Class Dojo us, so we know to get your child ready and that they can come out with a member of staff which may not necessarily be the preschool team it may be admin or our receptionist.

AM collections we ask that you collect between 11.45am-12pm

1pm collections at 1pm

PM collections we ask you collect between 3.30pm-3.45pm

Reminder...

The weather is still not great at this time of year, but the children are still enjoying plenty of time outside, so we do ask that you send them in warm clothes, including a hat and gloves ensuring they are named. Also, can the children bring in spare clothes to be able to get changed into if they are getting wet outside during water play/ or if we get caught short when playing in the big garden and the rain gets us a bit wet.

December Newsletter

Well November has flown by, with a month of full of learning opportunities!

The children were taught about staying safe on bonfire night and had the chance to hold a sparkler, enjoying making different shapes and letters . There were plenty of creative opportunities to look at colour mixing when making firework pictures.

The children also helped create a wreath to lay at the Cenotaph, a fab learning opportunity on Remembrance Day and the significance of poppies.

We walked to the Cenotaph, where the children were so inquisitive about the lovely display of wool poppies wrapped around the trees.

It was lovely to see the children all dressed up for Children in Need, and lots of fun was had with activities focused on spots, and even some Pudsey biscuit decorating!

Reminder...

The weather has taken a bit of a turn, but the children are still enjoying plenty of time outside, so we do ask that you send them in with warm clothes, including hat and gloves, ensuring they are named.

Our supply of spare clothes in running low, so if your child has recently had to borrow clothing from nursery, please can these be returned.

If you have any spare underwear or trousers in ages 2-5, donations would be much appreciated.

Autumn Out Of School Newsletter

Hi All

This term has been a busy one and flashed by before our eyes... not long now till Christmas!

The children have enjoyed settling back into the school routine and making new friends with our new starters.

We are trialling a new snack system upstairs as we felt the options of snacks for the children were not substantial enough to keep them going until home time, so we are now offering more carbs... crumpets, pancakes, toasties, etc We have seen this to be a success so far and the children are enjoying making their own snack upon arriving back from school (encouraging independence & life skills).

With the darker nights now drawing in, we have new high-viz jackets for all the children and staff to wear... BE SEEN, BE SAFE on our walks back from school!

The children have just finished our fun filled jammed packed Autumn/ Halloween half term, where we carved our pumpkins, baked cookies, dressed up in our spooky costumes and enjoyed apple bobbing! When leaving to go home all children took a sweet treat as tradition for treat or treating!

The next holiday club activity list will be out this week for the Christmas/ New year period.

Welcome Carly & Courtney

We would like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Carly to the management team. As well as having children herself, Carly has many years of childcare and leadership experience. Most of you would already have met Carly at the door, but if not she works Tuesday to Friday and will always be happy to see you!

We also welcome Courtney to the Out of School Club. A fun bubbly character who has already proved to be a hit with the children! Courtney has lots of fun activities in mind so watch this space!

November Newsletter

October was a busy month, flashing by before our eyes! The children have enjoyed Autumn activities, collecting conkers, fir cones, fallen leaves and using these materials to play with, paint with and create those master pieces.

Halloween was celebrated... we carved pumpkins, cooked with pumpkins and of course dressed up in our spooky costumes for our party! We enjoyed dancing the monster mash, apple bobbed, played trick or treat and went home with a special sweet treat.

Diwali the festival of light was celebrated and we had a guest visitor wearing traditional clothing where she explained to the children what Diwali was... they shared some traditional dancing, authentic food and went home with a special gift called a Diya (a gift of light) to remind people that good always wins over evil.

We have lots planned for the upcoming month so get your diaries at the ready!

We would also like to take this opportunity to Welcome Carly to the management team.

She has many years of experience of working with children and has already proven to be very popular with the children!

Parent/Carer Challenge

Continuing with the Autumn theme we challenge our parents and carers to visits local parks, take those autumn photos and send them into us for the children to enjoy viewing and discussing with their friends.

If you are visiting local bonfire events we would love to see your photos!

Friday 15th November - Children in Need... Children can come dressed up in spots, Pudsey’s or a dress up outfit of their choice. A charity collection box will be at the door if you wish to donate.

11th- 15th November - For Anti Bullying week the children will be taking part in games, play, and discussions of being kind and respectful to each other.

At Tots&Juniors we like to involve our parents/carers.

We believe there is lots of opportunities within nature to learn. Our challenge this month is a nature walk and to share what treasures you find along the way.

Can you find different sized sticks?
What bugs can you find along the way?
How many conkers can you find?

This is a great opportunity to incorporate a book into your nature walk...

Why not take a look at the “Stick man” book.

See if you can recreate your very own stick man using the twigs and leaves you collect along the way?

July is an exciting month!

We have our Leavers Graduation Party

Invitations have been sent out to our leavers.

The staff find goodbyes to all those loved faces/characters really tough, but this is the next step in your child’s journey ❤️

We always appreciate the first day uniform photos being sent in to make us smile! ��

The Pre School children have been super excited talking about holidays, paddling pools in their gardens and eating lots of ice cream! (hopefully the sun does come out!)

We have lots planned for the upcoming month so get your diaries at the ready for dates below!

Parent/Carer Challenge

Challenge your child to become independent with their oral hygiene this month...

Can they use their hand eye coordination to put their own toothpaste on their brush?

How do you time your child’s brushing... is it with a song? an egg timer?

A healthy mouth is so important for overall health and wellbeing.

Good oral hygiene can affect your child’s ability to eat, sleep, talk and play and it’s also important for how they feel about themselves.

Oral health is a requirement of the EYFS to promote good health for not just now but for their future.

Transitions

Children off to School in September We have had many teachers pop in and visit from local schools and of course the children have been very excited! A great way of preparing your the transition into big school.

In July there will be transition days at your child's school, a great opportunity for the children to explore classrooms, meet teachers and of course make new friends!

Transitioning can be a difficult time for both child & parent so we will help at Tots and Juniors anyway we can. If you would like any advice/support... please ask at the door or drop us a message.

Children staying at Tots&Juniors This is a big change for the children not yet going to school also, saying goodbye to friends is not always easy, but please do not worry as we are working on friendship building now, ensuring bonds are built with those they will be with them in September.

Alongside this we will be welcoming many new friends in September ��

Start bedtime & morning routines ready for September!

Now the warmer weather has started to make an appearance, please can we put a reminder out for children to come with a hat, sun cream and spare changes of clothing. A light rain mac for the occasional shower would be beneficial.

Please name all items of clothing.

Class Do Jo should be used to report any absences, including sickness, holidays and any appointments which will effect your child’s session.

Please can we be aware of your child’s session times Sessions finish at 12pm, 1pm and 3:45pm. Due to rations, staff lunches and session changes we must ensure children are collected by these times. A late fee will be added to your account if your child is collected late. Thank you for your understanding.

Welcome's & Thank You's!

We would like to welcome back the term time only children after half term and also give a huge welcome to our new children starting Tots and Juniors.

Its lovely to see lots of new faces ��

Thank you for the continued support of the children using our water station and leaving juice bottles at home. The children have really enjoyed drinking from the water station and trying different flavoured water using fruits such as cucumber and lemons.

We are encouraging the children to stay hydrated and increasing their independence. We have a policy in place to ensure all children are drinking throughout the sessions and meeting all allergy and dietary requirements.

Bedtime routine

Getting into a good bedtime routine is so important...

* Limit screen time to begin wind down time and lower your brain activity.

* Bath time to relax and keep clean!

* Teeth brushing – using this time to promote a healthy oral hygiene routine brushing our teeth.

* Story time- use this time to wind down and interact with a special story.

The Children are really enjoying drinking from our flavoured water station. Today they have a choice of lime or cucumber! Being able to help themselves really encourages hydration and increases independence... it also supports social interaction as the children sit in the station drinking with friends ��

We ask that children no longer bring drinks bottles from home Most bottles you will notice are going home full as they are too busy drinking our water and please be assured that staff will closely monitor that all children are drinking enough throughout the day.

Another exciting month in Pre School!

Chinese New Year brings lots of fun into the setting this month... The children enjoyed a tasty banquet last week and there is much more to come! 2024 is the year of the Dragon.

Sing & Sign was a big hit, we are looking forward to the start of regular classes on the last Thursday afternoon of each month.

Story Telling has continued to be extra popular since National Story Telling Day... the children are loving the puppet theatre.

Remember our Mini Library is now open so why not take a book home to enjoy with your child!

Tooth decay has such a life long impact on health, self esteem, behaviour and even finances, so it is vital we teach our little ones good habits now.

So much excitement in the Pre School as the children meet up once again with friends and form friendships as we welcome lots of new little ones ❤️

A big warm welcome to our new families and also Kirsty our new Bank Staff who will be a regular face at the setting! Kirsty holds many years experience and a Level 3 qualification in Early Years.

As the colder weather is really setting in, this months challenge is send us a photo or video of your child getting wrapped up independently or learning to do so!

The children are already super excited as they talk about putting up their decorations at home, seeing the local light switch on and of course the visits to Father Christmas himself!

We have been busy practicing some of our favourite Christmas songs, I am sure many of you have been hearing them at home too!

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Rachel to the team, who will be taking on the role of preschool team leader. Rachel has many years of experience of working with children and has already proven to be very popular with the children.

But that’s not the only exciting news… we would also like to welcome back Jo to the team! We know all of the children will be as excited as we are to have her back regularly!

Parent/Carer Challenge

To get into the festive spirit we would love for you all to take on these challenge of making your own Christmas tree decoration made of natural or recyclable materials. This could be a pine cone robin, A cereal box Christmas tree or if you are feeling super creative maybe even a salt dough decoration. We would then love to display them on our Christmas tree in preschool. Get crafting!

We would like to welcome our new children starting Tots&Juniors this term... it is lovely to see so many new faces. Don't forget to check out our new website! Here you can easily navigate round and find out all you need to know as a new and returning parent/carer... Menus, uniform, funding, meet the team to put a face to those names your children may be mentioning at home and so much more including photos that will be updated monthly.

We have had many new teachers pop in and visit your children this year from all the local schools and of course all the children had their transition day this month in which they all were very excited to tell us how it went. Transitioning for some can be a daunting time for both child and parent if we can help in any way at Tots and Juniors even if its just talking about their new school or offering any advice please ask at the door.

At Tots&Juniors we like to involve our parents as much as possible.

This month our challenge is an Autumn Scavenger Hunt! Whilst out on your walks, have a look what treasures of nature you can find!

We will pop a basket at the front of Tots&Juniors for you to add your findings... conkers, twigs, acorns, leaves, pinecones. Remember you can also send us photos of your walk on Class Do Jo.

There are so many learning opportunities:

- Which stick is the longest? Which is the shortest?

- What colour leaves can you find?

- How does the conker feel in its shell and then out of it?

- How many pinecones can you collect?
